He studied law in Utrecht, graduated in 1996, and became an attorney with Kernkamp advocaten in Rotterdam. He later moved to DLA Piper, founded Padberg Spanjaart Advocaten together with Marc Padberg, a firm that they ultimately merged with Kneppelhout & Korthals. Michiel has always stayed in touch. In fact, he is currently still linked to Kneppelhout as anof counsel.
